ARTISTIC PURPOSE
“Steps on strings” unifies two totally opposite musical universes. “I am convinced that mixing those universes can open the way to creativity”, Bruno Dias (guitar player) says. As far as the show is concerned, it is undoubtedly interesting, both artistically and commercially, that the audience and the musicians have to face universes they are not familiar with. “I grew up in a world influenced by the Hip-Hop culture while playing classical guitar. I have often wondered why there is so much prejudice on either side: why would the classic culture be necessarily reserved to an elite group and why would the Hip-Hop culture stay in the streets?”, Bruno Dias asks. “Steps on strings” mixes sounds and movements, and is divided in four parts. In the first one, the dancers “discover” the classical language trough the third and the fourth movements of the quintet in A by Dvorak. In the second one, the “discovery” goes the other way around. Indeed, the classical musicians meet the beat maker’s electronics creations, influenced by hip-hop movements. Up to this point, everybody keeps dancing on their own, in their little hermetic world. The artistic mix is born in the third part: to some extent, classical and electronic sounds face each other, which leads to the final session. It is a creative composition mixing and fully exploiting all the aspects of the two different styles in order to create a strong link between two worlds.
