TECHNICAL RIDER
This new creation is resulting from a residence in South Africa and from a meeting with Jarel Zenzile in Johannesburg. This young 24 years old self-educated dancer has created a dance school in the township of Soweto. In order to mark its attachment with a long tradition of dance in South Africa, the Indiginous Dance Academy impelled a new breath with the Pantsula dance, born during apartheid, and developed the “indigenous dance”, halfway between the urban dances and the South-African traditional dances. The Pantsula dance, Gumboots, Tap dance, Kwaito and all the street dances are the sources of inspiration of this school. This interbreeding of African southern traditional dance and urban dance gets closer to hip hop dances which are practised by the Wanted Posse Company , in particular the «New Style» and especially the «House». After 15 days of training and exchange with the best elements of the dancing school, the idea of this creation was born. The 21st century is the century of diversity and exchange, the century when borders disappear and brotherhood joins again with hope. This message was passed on to us by South Africa through the end of the apartheid and Nelson Mandela’s victory. Konexion is above all a work well anchored in its time. A part which speaks in the plural form, fruit of the dialogue between cultures where each one has its word to say, a gesture to be transmitted, a music to be shared. Here Breakdance and Gumboots talk together, House dance and Pantsula dance are exchanging , Hip-hop and Kwaito are face to face. Then comes out a fraternal discussion, a dialogue of bodies converging towards the same direction: that of the sharing, the transmission and the pleasure to dance.
